BRICS, until recently a forum for cooperation between Brazil, the Russian Federation, India, the People’s Republic of China, and the Republic of South Africa, has captured the imagination of many around the world since the early 2010s.

Bangladesh has a thousand links with neighbouring India, but since the Partition of the Raj, it has embarked on a path of national separation. The ousting of the prime minister in August was seen by many as the culmination of this process and a sign of a commitment to China.
